The Minister of Sport of Congo, Brazzerville Hugues Ngouélondélé has denied claims of his country’s willingness to host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. The Minister said Congo is not ready and it won’t be possible.
The Congolese Sport Minister maintained yesterday that his country will not be a candidate since it isn’t part of his government’s priority for now.
The statement comes after the Confederation of Africa, CAF’s Vice president Omari Constant last Friday had declared Congo had expressed its readiness to host Africa’s most respected tournament next year.
This is the latest development of the 2019 AFCON after Cameroon was stripped off its right to host the competition by CAF.
According to BBC sport website Hugues Ngouélondélé revealed that they won’t be able to host the 24 team format tournament with honour and dignity, six months to the competition.
He added that his country will be willing to host future competitions.
The Confederation of African football CAF, has disclosed that registered members of the association are entitled to host the competition.
Interested members are expected to deposit their candidacy file latest December 14 ,2018.
Congo Brazzerville becomes the second country to withdraw itself from hosting the competition after the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) ruled itself out of the bidding process to host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, after disclosing they won’t compete with another Arabic country.
Egypt last hosted an Africa Cup of Nations in 2006 when the Pharaohs won the trophy.
Morocco is considered favourite to host the 2019 AFCON which was withdrawn from Cameroon due to delays with preparations and security concerns.
