2019 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations: Cameroon Poised to Repeat 2003 Exploit

The under 17 National football team of Cameroon have been paired with Guinea, Morocco and Senegal in Group B of the under 17 nations Cup in Tanzania.

The fixture was released yesterday following the draw which took place at Mlimani City Conference Centre in Dar es Salaam, capital of Tanzania.

The event was attended by CAF Executive Committee members, Leodegar Tenga and Moses Magogo alongside CAF Director of Competitions, Samson Adamu who conducted the daw.

The 2003 champions are upbeat they will replicate their early 2000 exploits when the take on their group opponents.

Cameroon needs to be among the semi-finalists of the competition who will qualify to represent the continent at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Peru next year.

The U-17 lions qualified for the competition after beating Congo In the UNIFFAC Cup final 3-1.

Host Tanzania have been paired with Africa’s heavyweight and two time Champions, Nigeria ,Angola and debutants to the competition, Uganda.

2017 continental title holders, Mali alongside previous winners of the competition; Ghana, Ivory Coast , Gambia, Mali, Egypt and Burkina Faso are all absent.

Only Nigeria who lifted the trophy twice in 2001 and 2007 with Cameroon champions of the 2003 edition could add next year’s trophy to their silver wears.

The under 17 nations tournament will be held from 14-28 April 2019 in Tanzania.


Group A – Tanzania, Nigeria, Angola, Uganda

Group B – Guinea, Cameroon, Morocco, Senegal
