2019 U-23 AFCON Preps: Cameroon and Nigeria play goalless draw in friendly

2019 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations bounds-Cameroon and Nigeria played a goalless draw during a friendly game at the Hotel Mercure Stadium in Ismailia on Tuesday.

The warm-up game gave Rigobert Song – coach of the U-23 men’s team the opportunity to evaluate his team’s readiness for the African Cup of Nations in their category.

Both nations are in separate groups at the football event. 

Cameroon are making a debut at the continental football event and will face host Egypt, Mali and Ghana all of group A.

Nigeria take on South Africa, Zambia and Ivory Coast in Group B.

This year’s competition serves as qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games with the best three nations eligible to compete.

Only 16 players from Cameroon are presently in Egypt with the rest of the squad expected to arrive Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.

The tournament kickoffs on November 8-22, 2019 in Egypt.
