The Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon drew goalless with Ivory Coastal in Abijan during the first leg, fourth round qualifiers of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
It is the second draw between both countries in five encounters and the second time Cameroon have failed to emerge victorious against Ivory Coast despite being unbeaten.
The 2016 Vice African champions failed to secure a crucial away win to edge them closer from qualifying for next year’s event.
They are the only nation in the qualifying race that have once appeared at an Olympic game after Nigeria, South Africa and Zimbabwe crashed out unprecedentedly. Ghana also missed out to Kenya.
Ange Bawou got a clean sheet in her maiden start for Cameroon in between the sticks. The teenage keeper from second tier club Social of Mbam had a spectacular game with prompt saves.
What went wrong?
Cameroon were largely far from their best and rarely troubled the Ivorian backline .
The Lionesses decent outing during previous qualifying round faded into an unfruitful performance in Abijan as a better Cameroonian side could have shaped a more appealing scorelines.
Cameroon host Ivory Coast in the return leg fixture on Tuesday, November 12 in Yaoundé .
Coach Alain Djeumfa and the girls must be more daring, dig deeper and improve on their finishes If they must seal a spot for next-door round.
The winner of the second leg will face either Zambia or Kenya in the final round. Both sides played a 2-2 draw on Friday.
