Former Best Stars Academy player Pierre Kunde Malong says the Lions are more concerned about their buildup to their second 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifiers game against Rwanda with emphasis that the five time African champions are not under any pressure.
The 24-year-old FSV Mainz midfielder was speaking during a press conference on Thursday in Douala shortly before their departure for Rwanda.
Cameroon drew goalless with Cape Verde in yaounde on Wednesday during coach Toni Conceicao’s first home game in charge since his appointment as head coach of the senior men’s national team.
“We aren’t worried about Rwanda, what we are concerned about is our preparation ahead our game. We are preparing, but we respect our opponent. We aren’t pressurized” Pierre Kunde told Gina Informs during a press conference in Douala.
“The training was okay. He gave us confidence, put his own playing style in practice. We have been working hard and we are hoping it goes well.” the German based midfielder responded when questioned about the training with the new coach.
“We have welcomed the new players just the way we were welcomed and we are just passing on same spirit the way we were received. The new players are enthusiastic and have fitted in well,” he added”.
On his part 2017 African Cup of Nations winner Christian Bassogog said with great optimism it is an honor representing his country.
“There’s no pressure. I feel courageous I am proud to be a Cameroonian and I am proud to be representing my country. I’m not panicking”
Cameroon are en route to Rwanda where they will face The Wasps in Kigali on Sunday.
Rwanda who have not participated in an AFCON finals since 2004 lost their opening group game to Mozambique in Maputo.
Cameroon needs a win to top group F while hoping the Cape Verde vs Mozambique clash favors them.
