Day of mourning in Ethiopia

A national day of mourning has been declared in Ethiopia after yesterday’s crash of an Ethiopian Airlines plane near Addis Ababa’s Bole airport killed all 157 people aboard.
The Ethiopian Airlines plane is the second nearly new Boeing 737 Max to crash shortly after takeoff in less than five months.

Bouteflika back home

Algeria’s President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has returned to the country after two weeks in a Swiss hospital, state media say. A plane carrying the 82-year-old leader landed at Boufarik military airport near the capital, Algiers, as protests against his 20-year rule continue.

Spokesman of leading Rwandan opposition politician found dead

The spokesman for leading Rwandan opposition politician Victoire Ingabire has been found dead, a government official said on Sunday. It was not immediately clear how 30-year-old Anselme Mutuyimana had died.

Egypt’s President appoints General as Minister of Transportation

President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi has appointed the Head of the Engineering Authority for the Armed Forces, Major General Kamel Al-Wazir, as the new Minister of Transportation replacing former Minister Hisham Arafat who resigned after the train accident late February. Al-Sisi also promoted Al-Wazir to Lieutenant General.

Uhuru in Rwanda for working visit

Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta is in the country on a working visit.
The Kenyan President arrived in the country this morning and was received at Kigali International Airport by Foreign Affairs Dr. Richard Sezibera.
