The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon have left the country for Praia ahead of their match day five 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Cape Verde on March 26th.
Among the 26 players selected by coach Toni Conceicao, only Andre Franck Zambo Anguissa is ruled out for Friday’s round five Afcon qualifiers because of UK Covid-19 restrictions.
Cape Verde is among several African countries on the UK’s Covid travel red list.
African super-stars like Arsenal trio Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, Nicolas Pepe, Thomas Partey and other players from the Premier League have suffered from the same fate. They won’t be able to travel to some countries for the qualifiers.
No other major absence has been reported from the Lions den.
However, the 25-year-old will be available to feature during the Lions final qualifying game against Rwanda at the Japoma Stadium in Douala on March 30th.
The rest of the 25-man squad have left the country with the likes of Njie Clinton, Vincent Aboubakar and Martin Ako Assomo. They have expressed their will and determination to emerge victorious against the Blue Sharks-who are yet to win a single game since the qualifiers started in 2019.
Cameroon top group F with ten points and are six points clear the top from second placed Mozambique and Cape Verde. The five time African champions are among the five nations already through to next year’s Nations Cup.
The fifth round for the 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifiers begin today across the continent.
Nineteen slots are available.
