AFCON2021: Lawyers in Comoros Pushing For Cameroon Game Postponement

Some Lawyers from Comoros have asked the Confederation of African Football, CAF to postpone Cameroon’s game against AFCON newcomers Comoros tonight.

Barely some hours leading to the 8th Final game with the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, at least 12 persons within the ranks of Comoros’ delegation have tested positive for Covid-19.

The cases include 2 goalkeepers from the squad, meaning should any of them not make it into the playing squad tonight, then Comoros will be obliged to fill in the goal an outfield player, given that the third goalkeeper is out with injury.

In an address to CAF, lawyers of the Shepherds Law Firm have asked that the game to be pushed forward by 5 days so that affected players could recover.

The lawyers in the letter have also criticized the test process, calling them “fraudulent,” and insinuated it was a strategy to eliminate the Comorians from the AFCON.

They’ve also argued that the conditions in such a game will not be equitable, and will hence weigh heavily on the Comorians than on Cameroon. They also claimed that Cameroon did not need such assistance to face them in a knockout game.

Nevertheless, the game is set to go on as planned as there are no signs the match will be postponed. Unconfirmed reports also have it that one of the two Comorian goalkeepers who tested positive for Covid-19 has now received a negative test, and hence will join the team in Yaounde ahead of the game with the Indomitable Lions.
