The head coach of Cameroon Women’s national team Gabriel Zabo has named ten foreign based players to his squad, as the Indomitable Lionesses continue to brace up for the maiden Aisha Buhari Cup next month.
Among the players selected to join the thirty (30) local based players in camp is skipper Gabriel Aboudi Onguene, Atletico Madrid forward Nchout Njoya Ajara, Dabda Claudia and SSL Napoli’s new signing Marie Aurelle Awona.
Players like Esther Mayi Kith, Collette Ndzana, Falone Meffomettou, Ngo Yango and Malabo Kings Bella Rose who starred in the preliminary of the CAF Women’s Champions League headline the squad.
Cameroon is drawn with familiar rivals, Ghana and South Africa in group B of the Aisha Buhari Cup. The Lionesses will begin their campaign against Ghana on September 13, before taking of South Africa two days later.
The best two nations from the group will qualify for the semi-finals where they will be paired against either favourites Nigeria, Morocco or Mali who make up group A.
The maiden edition of the Nigeria’s first lady invitational tournament dubbed Aisha Buhari Cup will feature six nations. The competition is slated to run from September 13-20, 2021 in Lagos.
