Fon Kelvin Shomitang will be spending his third day in detention today in the hands of alleged Separatist fighters. Reports say he was kidnapped on Tuesday from his palace by some 40 armed men, speculated to be fighters loyal to self-styled Ambazonian General “No Pity.”

At the time the Fon was kidnapped, he had plans to launch the opening of the Bambalang Cultural Festival dubbed “Sha’atang.”

The Sha’atang was said to begin on December 09, 2021, with a procession to the secret forest, a place believed to be the origin of the people of Bambalang.

With Fon Kevin Shomitang now under captivity, there are now doubts over the effective holding of the Sha’atang. The Sha’atang, an annual cultural festival has not been held for more than four years because of the Anglophone crisis.

Should the cultural festival be suspended, then it will not have taken place since 2016. Making it the longest time without the annual cultural event since it was initiated.

Being in his third day of captivity, the whereabouts of the Fon remains unknown. Alleged separatists have reportedly demanded a ransom of 20 Million FCFA for Fon Kelvin Shomitang to be released.
