The Gabonese Football Federation has canceled the National Championship, over three months since it was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Gabon joins Mauritania,Gambia Uganda and several other African countries to forcefully put an end to their domestic leagues as a result of the global health crisis.
According to the Executive Committee meeting which held on Thursday in Owendo, Bouenguidi Sports and AS Mangasport will represented Gabon at the 2020/2021 CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup respectively.
“The Gabonese Football Federation (FEGAFOOT) in common agreement with the National Professional Football League (LINAFP, responsible for organizing the national championship) decided on Thursday in Libreville to definitively stop the national football championship 2019-2020 edition at the 7 day and to designate Bouenguidi sport as representative of Gabon in the African Champions League and Mangasport in the CAF Cup”
Both clubs were top of their groups with 15 points and 13 points respectively after seven (7) games played before the league was suspended in March.
Also, the Gabonese Football Federation concluded that there will be no winners, relegation nor promotion this year.
Bouenguidi Sports are making their maiden appearance at the continental scene while AS Mangasport have had previous unproductive spells and are aiming for a better campaign next year.
