Gabon inflicted debutants Comoros their first ever defeat at the Africa Cup of Nations after Aaron Boupendza scored a brilliant goal in their group C opener on Monday at the Ahmadou Ahidjou Stadium.
The Panthers who played without their skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who missed this match after testing positive for Covid-overwhelmed their opponents in the opening minutes which helped them settle the contest in the first half.
Aaron Boupendza struck the lone goal from a tight angle after he chased down Louis Ameka through pass and kept his nerve to drive a shot past goalkeeper Ahamada to the roof of the net on 16 minutes.
The win implies Gabon sit as joint leaders of their group after Morocco edged Ghana in the first game 1-0. Their next game of the group comes up this Friday. While Morocco face debutants Comoros in the first game at 5pm, Gabon will be hoping to clinch a second win when they take on Ghana at 8pm.
