CAF CC: FC Nouadhibou held to a goalless draw by Coton sport

By Beng Emmanuel

Coton Sport played an away goalless draw against FC FC Nouadhibou on Sunday in the first leg of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup Additional Second Preliminary Round at the Stade Olympic in Nouakchott.

The Cameroon Elite one giants labored to earn a draw against their host who were determined to grab a vital home win to brush aside the pain of the CAF Champions League preliminary round exit.

However, their dominance throughout the game was sterile as they failed to get a vital home win to put themselves on the safe side going into the reverse fixture on December 5, 2021.

The stalemate implies Coton Sport must win the second leg this Sunday at the Douala Re-Unification Stadium to qualify for the group stage of this season’s CAF Confederation Cup at the expense of FC FC Nouadhibou.

The 8-time Mauritanian champions have not gone past the preliminary round of any CAF Inter-club competition in their previous appearances in 2003 and 2014.

Coton Sport on their part reached the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup last season. The record 16-time Elite one champions who finished as runners-up in 2003 hope to reach the group stages for the second successive year
