Coton Sport of Garoua have been booted out of the CAF Champions League despite a 2-1 home win against Ismaily SC of Egypt.
Despite their 2-1 victory, Coton Sport won’t progress to the next round of the competition due to aggregate score between both teams. (2-3 aggregate).
The 2018 Cameroon League Champions put up a remarkable performance to overturn a 2-0 deficit score recorded during the first leg match.
Coton Sport began the match by conceding an early first half goal as El Mohamadi Baher scored during the 4th minute for El Ismaily.
The 6 time Cup of Cameroon winners however bounced back shortly before the break when Kadiang Ngweni benifited from a rebound from the Ismaily defence inside the penalty area to level score at the 43rd minute.
The North region based club returned for the second period with much more determination with Kamilou Daouda converting a penalty kick to increase tally 2-1 (2-3 on aggregate).
Despite their enormous efforts, Coton Sport of Garoua failed to make use of numerous goal scoring opportunities to make a difference.
The Garoua side have therefore been knocked out of the competition following their defeat today at the Yaounde Military Stadium.
Coton Sport of Garoua had advance to the next round of the CAF Champions League when they beat l’Association Sportive des Fonctionnaires de Bobo Dioulasso, Of Burkina Faso 5-3 during post match penalty shoot outs.
Coton Sport was founded in 1986 and were promoted to Cameroon’s first division championship in 1992.
Since then, they have dominated local football winning eleven league titles in the process.
Coton’s mistake was probably conceding an early goal which they later regretted.
Despite having continental dominance during their past glories, Coton Sport have ceased to replicate their exploit In the continent.
