Calm has returned to some parts of the Southwest Region of Cameroon, after sporadic firing of gunshots, by unknown gunmen as pupils took the Common Entrance Exams.
The areas affected are Muea and Buea; from check point to Bunduma.
Gina Informs gathered from some persons in Buea that the gunshots began in the early hours of Tuesday morning in Muea, then stopped.
Witnesses say unknown gunmen attacked exam centers when the Common Entrance Exams started, and they heard gunshots gun shots at their homes.
A witness said pupils writing the exams were held in their classrooms and could not be released to their parents admits gun firing. It was a chaotic scene as parents refused to return home without their kids. However, when calm returned the kids were released to their anxious parents.
Another witness said they were at home, in Bakweri town, when they heard gunshots and they immediately went under their beds.
Someone writing to Gina Informs from Molyko in Buea, said she was out of the house when she heard the gunshots and she and others ran for their lives back home.
Many inhabitants of Buea say the situation may be calm but they will not step out of their homes because of fear of the unknown.
There have been rumors that the unknown gun men who could be the ‘Amba boys’ have plans to disrupt the National Day celebrations, the National Day comes up on Sunday, May 20, 2018.
