Cameroon’s Lionesses have defeated Kenya’s Malkia Strikers and Africa’s Volleyball champions on Saturday in a match which held at the Multi Sports Complex in Yaounde.
The Lionesses came to the spotlight after a glorious 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 29-27) win against Kenya; a defeat which is registered as their first ever, since the tournament began in Yaounde.
Kenya began strongly and were leading 5-3 in the first set before Cameroon settled down and scored some quick points to conjure an 8-6 lead at the first technical timeout.
The hosts never looked back again and despite the 22-22 draw, the Lionesses held their own and ended up taking the set 25-22.
It appears Lionesses have reached the team’s target. The captain of the Volleyball lionesses, Christelle Nana had mentioned that the teams objective is to win their very first Africa Women’s Volleyball Cup of Nations and qualify for the world championship.
Ranked first in the continent, the volleyball Lionesses of Cameroon recorded their best outings when they defeated Botswana to come third in 1985.
