It is about 24 hours ever since the President of Cameroon held a meeting with the Secretary General of the UN, and citizens remain uninformed about the details of the meeting.
According to the Presidency, Mr. Antonio Guterres paid a courtesy call at the Unity Palace and was received in audience by the President Paul Biya. This meeting is the second Cameroon’s head of state is having with the UN chief in two months, both leaders met last month in New York, on the sidelines of the 72nd UN General Assembly.
Speaking to AFP on Thursday in Bangui, capital of Central African Republic (CAR), the UN Boss’ words were “We are going to be able to assess the recent evolution of (the situation of) the anglophone community.”
“It’s a meeting that I deeply appreciate,” Guterres said, adding that it reflected Cameroon’s “great interest” in working “positively” in the region.
Guterres mentioned he would also talk with Biya about the influx of displaced people from CAR into Cameroon and his concerns about the crisis in the Lake Chad region triggered by attacks by Boko Haram jihadists.
While in Cameroon he also held talks with PM Philemon Yang at the airport before his departure to Paris via a commercial flight.
