The women’s national Basketball team of Cameroon has qualified for the quarter-final of the 2021 Women’s FIBA AfroBasket after picking up their second consecutive win of the competition.

The basketball Lionesses fought hard to defeat a solid Cape Verde side yesterday at the multi-purpose Sport complex 71-40 to sail through unbeaten from group A.

Marguerite Effa inspired Cameroon to another impressive win with the 24-year-old forward recording 12 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assist and an interception. Her teammates Merveille Nkoyock registered 17 points during Monday’s game; Hermine Ngueko scored 10 points, while Alexandra Green ameliorated her performance adding 3 more passes to her six in the first game against Kenya whom they beat in their opening group A fixture 74-50.

Cameroon joins regulars Nigeria, Senegal and Mali who progressed to the last eight of the competition after recording impressive wins on Monday.

The host will face either Egypt or Tunisia-who clash on Wednesday in a North African derby- in the quarter-final.  The basketball Lionesses are poised to reach the semi-final of the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket for the first time since 2015.
