Cameroon to face CAR in AWCON Qualifiers

  • The draw for the Total Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2022 Qualifiers was conducted on Monday, 10 May 2021 at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.

Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses will face the Central African Republic in the first round of the 2022 Women’s African Cup of Cup Nations Qualifiers. 

The draw of the premier women’s sporting event was conducted in CAF Headquarters in Cairo, Egypt by Senior Manager of Women Football & Futsal Heba Sarwat. She was assisted by Egyptian footballer Nadine Ghazy.

A record of 45 member associations including host Morocco took part in the draw ceremony that produced interesting pairings for the first round. Defending champions Nigeria will face Ghana in the West African Football Union WAFU B qualifiers. 

Desire Ellis South Africa are paired with Mozambique, Algeria face Sudan and Malawi host Zambia. 

Nigeria won the AFCON Women’s title in 2018

The first and second leg fixture of the first round will run from July 7-15. The second round is slated to take place from October 18 – 29. Aggregate winners of both rounds will qualify for the final tournament.

The 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations will be staged in Morocco next year. It will be the first edition organized under the new format of 12 teams.
