Masasi Amede bagged a late goal to help the Democratic Republic of Congo rescue a point against Libya in a clash of former CHAN winners on Thursday at the Japoma Stadium in Douala.
The DRC trailed as early as the sixth minute when Libya’s skipper Muetaz Husayn scored the opener before Amede’s strike levelled with a 90+3 equalizer.
It was a difficult game for Congo who suffered a huge shock when several of their players (about four) and Head Coach Florent Ibenge tested positive for Covid-19 and were side lined for the Libya clash.
However they managed to snatch a point which keeps them top of Group B with four points in two games. The two time CHAN winner who are the most celebrated nation at the continental tournament face Niger in their last group game.
Libya record their second draw in the tournament after a goalless tie with Niger in the opening fixture. A win against Congo Republic will boost the team’s chances of grabbing their second CHAN trophy.
