Thierry Tchuente and Felix Oukine were on target as Coton Sport of Garoua made a winning start in the 2020/2021 Elite one season with a well-deserved 2-0 win over Panthere of Nde.
The game was the first league fixture in Cameroon since the championship was abandoned in May due to Covid-19.
Former CS Chebba midfield anchor Thierry Tchuente scored the opener for Coton Sport from a sublime header twenty (28) minutes into the fixture before Coton’s skipper Felix Oukine sealed the win with an outrageous long range screamer nine minutes to the end of the encounter.
The Cameroon League one Vice Champions struggled to make possession count before a resilient Panthere of Nde side that put up stiff resistance although they lacked major stand out moments.
Coton got the lead when Thierry Tchuente headed home a towering header from close range to become the first player to score this season.
Despite trailing Panthere rarely threatened Coton Sport’s backline and struggled to carve out clear-cut chances. Although they had begun the game brightly, there faded badly in the first quarter of the game and visibly far from their best.
Their glitches only got worse when Joel Ndzana was sent off before the break. The team had already been forced to an early substitution after Mbarga picked up an early injury. The visitors almost added a second before halftime but a series of last tackles from Panthere’s defence cleared off the ball from getting close to goal.
Coton Sport’s terrific second half form gave indescribable nightmare to Panthere of Nde that had suddenly gone lifeless and uninspiring.
Despite creating multiple goal scoring opportunities, the CAF Confederation Cup bound fluffed their lines. They only got their breakthrough from Felix Oukine’s strike to claim a comfortable win.
The fifteen time League one champions are poised to clinch their first Elite one title since 2018.
