Cameroon’s health ministry has announced an intensive national vaccination campaign against COVID-19 for people aged 18 years and above, from 17 -21 November 2021.
In a tweet, Health minister Manaouda Malechie said he hopes many people get vaccinated during the campaign.
The ministry has also sent out text messages encouraging citizens to get the jab.
Cameroon, like many African countries, currently suffers from vaccine hesitancy.
Cameroon began vaccinating people against the coronavirus in April. The campaign kicked off thanks to a donation of 200,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine by China.
But today only about 3% of the government’s target population have received a first dose and 1.1 percent are fully vaccinated, according to the health ministry.
Many citizens are afraid to take the jab because they’re worried about its side effects.
Cameroon has recorded 104,348 with 1,731 deaths.
