End of Year Festivities: Fako SDO Bans Nocturnal Gatherings

The Senior Divisional Officer of the Fako Division, in the South West Region has prohibited all nocturnal gatherings from December 15, 2021 until February 15, 2022.

This decision from the Senior Divisional Officer comes as end-of-year festivities are approaching, and the ban according to the communiqué he signed is for security purposes.

The communiqué specifies that any gatherings if necessary during this specified period will have to obtain authorization from the Sub Divisional Officers, with appropriate security measures to cover the ceremony.

The decision to limit nocturnal social gatherings from the Fako Division also comes on the back of several security breaches in the town by alleged Separatists.

IED explosions have been recorded in some parts of the town, such as the University of Buea which wounded several students and Check Point, Molyko, Buea which killed a taxi driver.

Authorities in the South West Region since then have vowed to take appropriate security measures to limit the security threats from the town.
