Indomitable Lions captain Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has won his first trophy of the 2021/2022 season with Bayern Munich as the Bundesliga giants beat Borussia Dortmund 3-1 to retain the German Super Cup.
Poland prolific striker Robert Lewandowski scored a brace in both halves of the game before he was substituted late on by Choupo-Moting at the 88th minute. Thomas Muller was also on target for Bayern while Marco Reus pulled on back for the Black and yellows.
The Cameroonian striker-whose contract was extended by two more years by Bayern Munich in June 2021-, has now won three (3) titles since his move to Germany from Paris Saint Germain on a one year deal.
He won his maiden Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich in only his first stint with the German club as well as the FIFA Club World Cup in 2020.
The former Stoke City and Mainz 05 forward scored nine goals in over 30 appearances last season for his club, including three (3) goals in 20 league games. He captained the record Bundesliga giants during some pre-season games in their build-up to the ongoing season which began with a 1-1 draw at Borussia Monchengladbach.
Choupo-Moting, 32 achieved his triumph the same night his country Cameroon were drawn in group A of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations with Burkina Faso, Ethiopia and Cape Verde.
He is expected to lead Cameroon-five time African champions-to their sixth continental crown on home soil. The Central African nation last won the AFCON in 2017.
