FIFA U-17 World Cup: Hapless Cameroon crash out after debacle performances

By Beng Emmanuel.

Cameroon’s U-17 Lions have been eliminated from the ongoing FIFA U-17 World Cup after a 0-2 defeat to four time world cup runners-up Spain.

The lions trialed at first half ( 2-0 )but failed to battle back and recover from the shock which cost them a round of 16 spot.

A large margin win against Spain on Sunday could have been enough to seal Cameroon spot for next round as one of the best losing sides of the groups.

The reigning African Champions lost all their three group games, scored just a single goal and conceded six in three outings.

Cameroon had not been featured at the U-17 World Cup in 16 years and had nursed hopes to reach the knock out stages but were not convincing enough. Their previous participation in 2003 ended on the same note although the U-17 Lions never lost any of their three games but bowed out at the group phases.

Star players like Steve Mvoue, Seidou Ismaila, Leonel Wamba and shot stopper Ekoi Manfred simply failed to impress at the global Sport showpiece.

Cameroon tails group E with no point recorded behind Tadjikistan with three points.

Spain and Argentina qualified from the group.
