The former boss of the Gambia Football Association (GFF), Seedy Kinteh has been slammed a four years ban after being found guilty of corruption.
The Africa football official was tried by the FIFA ethics judge for taking cash gifts from former FIFA presidential candidate Mohamed bin Hammam of Qatar.
Seedy Kinteh was admitted guilty by the adjudicatory chamber stating that the one time GFF suprimo violated article 20 grounded on the offering and accepting of gifts and benefits ( bribery and corruption ) of the 2012 edition of the FIFA code of ethics.
FIFA disclosed that its ethics committee found Seedy Kinteh guilty on charges of bribery and corruption, and accepting gifts and was fined 200,000 Swiss francs ($202,000). His ban covers all football-related activities at both national and international level.
According to Agence France Press, Kinteh was named in a 2014 investigation report by FIFA’s then-ethics taking payments totaling $69,396 from Bin Hammam from February 2010 to April 2011.
According to BBC, The investigation against Kinteh began on 1 March 2017 and was linked to Fifa’s presidential elections in 2011.
Bin Hammam was suspended in 2011 days before the election against then-president Sepp Blatter after being implicated in bribing Caribbean voters.
Apart from the suspension, which comes into force immediately, Kinteh was fined US$200,000.
Reports from the Guardian and Independence suggest that the former Qatari FIFA Football President Mohammed Bin Hammam distributed over quarter of a Million Pounds to 30 African Football heads to buy their votes for his country’s bit for hosting the 2018/22 FIFA World Cup.
It goes further to explain that, Several African countries are implicated in accepting bribery for their votes. Mr. Seedy Kinteh former embattled President of the GFF allegedly received over £36,000 for a car to travel to negotiate football project.
