Gabon presidency calls Bloomberg’s report on Ali Bongo’s health “fake news”

On Monday, September 02, the New York based media company, Bloomberg published an article titled: “Gabon President Hospitalized in London as Health Deteriorates”.

In the article the media company revealed that the “Gabonese President Ali Bongo is receiving medical treatment in London after his health deteriorated during a visit to the city.”

The article states that Bloomberg got the information from “people familiar with the matter.”

Reacting to the article Gabon’s presidency has said Bloomberg isn’t reporting on facts and isn’t professional in its reporting, for publishing an article based on “hear-says.”

The presidency denounced the article saying that at no time has President Bongo’s health deteriorated.

The presidency added that on the contrary, President Ali Bongo, is fully recovering from his physical disability and he isn’t hospitalized in London as Bloomberg revealed.

He is undergoing routine medical checks in London where he has taken a few days off with his family.

Bongo’s state of health has been the subject of fierce speculation ever since his illness in October last year.
In August he appeared live in public for the first time almost 10 months after suffering a stroke, walking with a stick as he attended ceremonies in the capital, Libreville.
