New Stars makes history in CAF Confederations Cup wins, UMS Flops

By Emmanuel Beng in Buea
New Stars of Douala have sailed to the next stage of the competition after a remarkable 4-1 away win against Vital’o FC in Bujumbura, Burundi.

It is the first time the Cameroonian club have advanced to the next stage of a continental event.

The 2017 cup of Cameroon winners had settled for a 0-0 draw during the first leg match in Cameroon and had to wait for the return leg match to see their dreams come through.

The littoral base club had failed to score on home soil to the dismay of many supporters. Many had believed that New stars were doom for elimination after the first leg match at the Limbe Omnisport Stadium stadium.

Junior Figo Ngongang scored a quadruple  for the visiting side. Vital’o Fc could only pull one back after regular play time bowing out to a rather brilliant new star side who put up a remarkable performance.

However UMS of Loum failed to emulate the example of Coton Sport of Garoua and New Stars of Douala as they fell away to Lopi Star of Nigeria 2-0 during the return leg match at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Nigeria. The goals came in at the 14th and 69th minutes of play

UMS of loum have therefore been knocked out of the CAF Champions league following a 2-1 aggregate defeat.
