Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana and Mainz midfielder Pierre Kunde Malong are set to miss the Lions international friendly game against Japan after both players tested positive for Covid-19-the team’s medical doctor confirmed during a briefing of the players health situation on Thursday.
Prof. William Ngatchou said the two players tested positive for Coronavirus and added that they had been in contact with positive cases for over six weeks.
They add to the number of absentees in Coach António Conceição list of pre-selected players. Igniatius Ganago, Jean-Pierre Nsame and Jerome Onguene who were ruled out from the squad complete the list.
Only 17 of the players retained for the Netherlands camp by the Portuguese tactician have been confirmed fit to feature against Japan. Although a good number of regular players are unavailable the 58-year-old tactician is keen on securing back-to-back wins since for the first time since taking charge of the squad in September 2019.
Cameroon face Japan this Friday October 9 at the Stadion Galgenwaard in Utrecht, Netherlands. The five time African champions who have been in camp since October 5th are bracing up for a win against the Samurai Blue for the first time since 2001.
