Cameroon midfielder Yvan Neyou is uncertain to feature for the Indomitable Lions in their final two 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification games in November after picking up an injury on Saturday with Saint Etienne.
The 24-year-old midfield anchor was stretched out after twisting his right ankle. He had played just five minutes in Saint Etienne 1-1 draw with Metz during match day 12 of the French Ligue 1. The extent of the injury hasn’t been disclosed.
Neyou becomes the second player drafted in Cameroon’s 32-man provisional squad ahead of their crunch 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Malawi and Ivory Coast. He joins Bayern Munich forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting who is also ruled out of action for two weeks.
Cameroon face Malawi on 13th of November on match day five at the Orlando Stadium in South Africa before taking on group D leaders Ivory Coast on November 16 on home soil.
The five times African champions must win their last two games if they must keep hopes of reaching the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar. They missed out from the previous edition in 2018.
